theyd only slow carmack down.
that guy could probably do this on a cell phone if he wanted to. That is a compliment to carmack, not a cut at the PS3.
megatextures should do a good bit towards making normal AA work better anyway since the testures themselves will be of almost infinite quality already.
journalists overhyped it. He talked about his vision too soon, which he should have been rightfully excited for. Just like any other game, features were cut, and it didn't live up to the original vision.
He should have kept his vision under wraps, but it's gaming journalism's fault it got so huge.
Also, he already admitted he said to much way before fable 2 came out.
From it's teaser page:
"Gifts You May Want to Avoid
These devices all have one thing in common: obscure replacement parts."
I'd say the battery in a PS3 controller is an obscure part to replace despite the low possibility of it breaking.
Look at the last one in the article. The complaint is that you have to ship the TV to get it repaired.

"Thats cos we're gamers, and gamers dont care about Wii. Its easily the worst console I've ever owned."
You're an idiot. Any real gamer should care about every major gaming platform. The wii is definitely one. Despite massive amounts of shovelware, there's still a few really great games on the system. Okami on wii (the most logical version of the game), SMG, Metroid, Twilight Princess, SuperMario Bros wii are all great. Even a lot of the mini-game games are good fun to ...
It streams HD from netflix and xbl.

I'd agree with these estimates except the DS. There were some ridiculous DS sales this year on black friday.
I didn't disagree with you, but Mac's getting more games wouldn't be very threatening to windows at all.
Windows biggest market is businesses, which macs really aren't shooting for very well. Linux is it's biggest competitor there, and it has nothing to do with games.
Purely on a gaming front though, if macs did get every game windows had, how many people do you know that would want to spend $2000 on a mac that's equally or less powerful than a $1200 PC you make your...
I do wish 360's achievements had some way of separating "level completed" achievements from ones that are actually difficult (ala halo 3's finding all the skulls off the top of my head).
The point values are different and usually reward harder achievements, but to someone looking at achievements you can't really tell if someone just has a crap ton of easy achievements or all the really difficult achievements.
That's a much larger benefit than having a level...
1.) they give people that report a free copy of windows for reporting that they stole it (source: article). I'd hardly call that screwing anyone over.
2.) OEM isn't an anti-piracy thing. It's a mass distribution to PC manufacturers thing. The fact that you bought the OEM version speaks volumes.
Launch PS2's definitely were. they're problem was a little easier to fix as they just needed a new disk drive instead of a board redesign, but the launch PS2s were just as bad as launch 360s. There just weren't as many places for people to whine about it.

They aren't even close to 40% they own about 8%.

It's being adopted at a faster rate of number of units, but a slower rate by percent of market.
The market has expanded tremendously since DVD launched.

ferrox can run PS3 isos, it just hasn't been leaked to anyone except the hacker that made it. There's a fake version of it floating around that doesn't work but there's some videos showing the real version on youtube.
Then paradox is being worked on as a PS3 ISO loader too.
The PS3 just doesn't mesh with their company's goals right now. They were never a technology company (like iD or Epic or Crytek). they're about making game experiences first and foremost, and they will spend their money advancing those experiences.
Why would they want to spend extra time and money developing tech for a foreign platform when they can spend that time and money advancing the experience on their primary platform (PC) and hitting a button and having it work on 360.
You are misunderstanding. Natal does almost all of that on board. It doesn't use any or much of the 360's hardware to do any of this stuff. The PSEye can approximate it just fine, but it has to do all the calculations on the PS3.
"they are not THAT different.one has it built in.the other has to be programmed for it."
this is also a huge understatement. You may as well say a pile of car parts isn't that different from a car because one is made and one has to...
Natal has hardware on board to calculate a user's skeleton and translate it to a bone structure for a model usable in game. That is a pretty huge improvement for developers. Instead of having to write all the code themselves all they have to do is write in something like leftHand.getLoc(); to get the location of the left hand.
It also senses in 3d space rather than approximating 3d space with a 2d image.
You can approximate 3d space with any 3d camera and software. h...
That wouldn't make any sense. a GPGPU and the Cell serve practically the same processing purpose.
You'd get very little gains doing it that way as you'd make it excessively complicated for the sake of being complicated. You may as well just use 2 Cells.
Like Ju said, there will still be huge opportunity for multi-threading and parallel processing with a GPGPU architecture. That isn't being abandoned as that clearly has huge potential strides in performance. There is purely a change in the hardware model they're using to accomplish it.
To be frank, I'll take the Dr.'s at IBMs word on which is a more productive model over the word of a bunch of forum goers.
I am strongly of the belief that if you run an english speaking news website, you should be able to write in english.
maybe that's just me.
did anyone notice how much more time hip hop got to talk than torrence?
Almost every time Torrence starts talking hip hop interrupts after 1 sentence and talks for 4 minutes.
take off the blinders dude. He knocks the 360 in the other article too.
but the cell should be used for anti aliasing? It's fine for extra SPUs, but why not something that's actually important to the gameplay if you need to.
Volumetric smoke and more realistic explosions being simulated on the cell is a far better use than anti-aliasing when it comes to visuals.
